TRIPS TO LLANDUDNO

Early in November the coach took off again to Llandudno for another bumper weekend on the Wesh coast at Can-y-Bae with our superb hosts Dave & Michael.

Another theatre trip, this time to see Claire Sweeney & Sue Pollard in 'Shout'. I believe Miss Pollard stole the show!!

On the last weekend of April a grand time was had by all as expected. We were wonderfully fed & watered by our splendid hosts and entertained at the theatre on the Saturday night with the 'Jolson Story'.

Plenty of sights to see around the area during the day, with all sorts of trips around the Great Orme and good shopping opportunities around the old town.

An August trip again filled the hotel. The big attraction was the show, of course. Many people were seeing 'Chicago' for a second time (if not more), with Gary Wilmot and the cast giving a first rate performance. 'Mr Cellophane' was fantastic!! Tobogganing seemed to be the biggest attraction on Sunday morning.

I think December is the next trip.

JIM'S RETIREMENT PARTY

Not surprisingly Jim Parker was readily press ganged into celebrating his 65th birthday with a party at the Brasserie in November. An amazing turn out of over 70 friends gladly gathered for the occasion.

Everyone had a great time with a fantastic spread and a chance to reflect on the recent show and also the prospects for next year's choice.

But the evening truly belonged to Jim as he expressed his sincere thanks to all present for their support over the years and the pleasure he has experienced from his involvement with both of the Kidderminster dramatic societies. This was climaxed with an impromptu performance, (or was it?) of 'My Way', which brought the house down!!!

BOB'S BIRTHDAY BASH

Bob Powell's 70th birthday bash was well and truly celebrated in style at his new country seat out at Dunley on a fortunately sunny Saturday afternoon last August. In fact it seemed as if Bob must have offered up a weather prayer for the clouds to part for just a few hours to keep us all happy!

The surroundings were beautiful, the hosts totally charming and the food absolutely delicious. Thank you Julian for playing chief chef once again!

Cheryl set us a most demanding quiz to keep us on our feet, and I am now convinced, having looked at all the answers, that there must be at least 100 counties in England and 100 states in the USA!!!!

  Thank you Bob & Pat

PRE-CHRISTMAS BARNDANCE

Baxter Hall was not available this year and so off we trooped off to Wolverley for our annual pre-Christmas get together. Again the attendance was truly fantastic and we all had to play the game of 'who isn't here'. Fortunately Bob did eventually arrive which cost a few people on side-wagers!

Last year's Caller returned to give an excellent performance and we were at times struggling for room so keen was every body to join in.

The food was absolutely scrumptious with much time and effort going into the preparation and Vicky Forrester leading the chefs in the kitchen. Many thanks to all of you who made such a success of this evening.

Please accept here a special big thank you to Wendy Richards, our social secretary, who must put in so much time to ensure the success of all the ventures highlighted on this page. 'All the usual suspects' are regularly on parade to help her of course - what a brilliant society!!!

AFTERSHOW BALL

Late in November Carpet Trades gathered for the annual party and this time it was a for a 'posh do' at the Gainsborough Hotel with fancy frocks and bow ties.

Full four course meal, but it was all a bit of a struggle for the waiters with the first course who couldn't decide whether they were serving a gazpacho or the previous evening's vegetable soup. Unfortunately the lack of any taste confounded any further detective work!

Cheryl soon brought matters to order and better fare did appear subsequently.

The disco got us all going later on with some pretty wild contributions from many of the guests. Not surprisingly Jim seemed to have as much energy as everybody else put together.

The best dressed competition was won by Sarah Richards & Kevin Campbell, both hansomely deserved - what a waistcoat Kev!
